An accountant from Sarasota has been released from Manatee County Jail following an arrest related to the alleged unauthorized use of a tracking device. Steven Colon Sr., after posting bail of $2,500, defended his actions while refusing to disclose specifics about the incident. The accusations stem from claims that he placed an Apple AirTag on someone's vehicle without their knowledge or consent. His legal counsel maintains his innocence and highlights his long-standing reputation as a respected CPA in the community.

The situation unfolded when the individual who discovered the tracking device brought it to the attention of the Bradenton Police Department. According to authorities, this person noticed the device attached to their vehicle and promptly reported it. In response to inquiries, Colon deferred all comments to his attorney, Todd Hunger, who strongly asserts his client's innocence. Hunger emphasized Colon's cooperation with law enforcement, noting that he voluntarily surrendered himself and was subsequently released without any complications.

It is important to note that the investigation remains focused solely on the matter of the tracking device. This case should not be conflated with another unrelated incident involving Colon's son, Steve Colon Jr., who was fatally shot in September 2022. The shooter claimed Florida’s "stand-your-ground" defense and was never prosecuted for the shooting. Despite this, Colon Sr. disputes the circumstances surrounding his son's death, alleging that it stemmed from a homeowners association (HOA) disagreement and that his son was targeted due to his autism.

Colon Sr. continues to seek justice for his son, urging the state attorney’s office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to reconsider the case. He insists that new evidence could provide clarity regarding the tragic event. As legal proceedings progress concerning the tracking allegations, Colon Sr. remains adamant about both his innocence in the current matter and the need for further investigation into his son's death.

Beyond the immediate legal challenges, the broader implications of this case highlight the complexities of modern technology and privacy rights. While Colon Sr. navigates these legal waters, his family legacy and professional reputation remain at stake. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly shape public perception and underscore the importance of understanding evolving technological boundaries.
