Anadolu Efes Istanbul has officially secured the talents of American forward Cole Swider, signing him for the upcoming 2025-26 basketball season. This move, formally announced by the Turkish club, is poised to significantly bolster their roster with a player renowned for his perimeter shooting prowess.
Swider, a 26-year-old sharpshooter, brings a wealth of experience from his time in the NBA, where he played for three seasons, most recently dividing his time between the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, and their G League affiliates. During the 2024-25 season, he averaged 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds over eight games with the Toronto Raptors, consistently demonstrating his proficiency from long range. His G League tenure was particularly impressive, highlighted by an average of 21.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and an exceptional 44.2% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc across 31 contests. A notable performance included a 36-point outburst for the South Bay Lakers shortly after joining the team.
A product of Villanova and Syracuse universities, Swider embarked on his professional journey with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022 after going undrafted. He subsequently played for the Miami Heat and their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, before his stints with Detroit and Toronto. Under the leadership of head coach Igor Kokoskov, Anadolu Efes has a history of integrating former NBA players into their squad, aiming to fuse diverse experiences with established skill sets to achieve success in the EuroLeague. Swider's acquisition is specifically targeted at addressing the team's need for reliable outside shooting and improved floor spacing within Kokoskov’s offensive framework. With 35 NBA games under his belt, Swider is now looking for a more substantial role and consistent playing time in Istanbul, a goal that aligns perfectly with Efes’s fast-paced, perimeter-focused offensive strategy, which could provide an ideal environment for him to excel.
This strategic signing not only strengthens Anadolu Efes's competitive edge but also underscores the growing global appeal of top-tier basketball leagues like the EuroLeague, offering a fresh start for talented athletes seeking to maximize their potential on an international stage. It is a testament to perseverance and the pursuit of opportunities beyond familiar boundaries, fostering growth and expanding horizons for both players and teams.
