Atmos Energy, a leading natural gas distributor, has unveiled its third-quarter fiscal year 2026 financial outcomes, showcasing substantial growth and strategic advancements. This report highlights key financial metrics, infrastructure development initiatives, customer service achievements, and future projections, offering a comprehensive overview of the company's robust performance.

Fueling Growth: A Vision for Sustainable Energy and Customer Value

Outstanding Financial Performance and Strategic Objectives

Atmos Energy announced an impressive net income of $1.2 billion for the initial nine months of fiscal 2026, translating to $7.33 in diluted earnings per share. This 14.5% year-over-year increase underscores effective regulatory strategies and a growing customer base. The company's leadership reiterated its full-year EPS forecast of $8.40 to $8.50, demonstrating confidence in its financial trajectory despite anticipated fluctuations in pipeline profitability during the fourth quarter. Capital expenditures reached $3.1 billion, with the vast majority dedicated to enhancing system safety and reliability.

Expanding Customer Base and Economic Contributions

The company experienced significant customer acquisition, adding nearly 51,000 new customers over the past year, with Texas accounting for approximately 39,000 of these additions. This growth extends to commercial and industrial sectors, with 600 new commercial customers in Q3 and 12 new industrial customers year-to-date, collectively projected to consume 950,000 Mcf annually—equivalent to serving 18,000 residential clients. This expansion reflects natural gas's crucial role in regional economic development, particularly in Texas, which saw 30 new Fortune 500 companies in 2026, totaling 57 and making it a national leader.

Infrastructure Development and System Enhancement

Atmos Pipeline-Texas (APT) is actively engaged in critical infrastructure projects aimed at boosting system safety, reliability, and supply diversification. Key initiatives include installing 29 miles of 36-inch pipeline southeast of the DFW Metroplex to connect compressor stations to the Tri-City storage facility, and constructing a bilateral compressor station in Carthage, Texas, to increase capacity. Additionally, a 92-mile, 36-inch pipeline loop is being completed in the northwestern Metroplex, with all major projects expected to be operational by calendar year-end.

Regulatory Landscape and Financial Management

The company's financial performance was significantly influenced by Texas House Bill 4384, which contributed $132 million, or $0.63 per share, to earnings. Furthermore, $396 million in annualized operating income increases have been implemented since the fiscal year began, with an additional $334 million sought through seven active regulatory filings. Atmos Energy maintains a robust equity capitalization of 60% and $4.6 billion in available liquidity, supported by forward equity sale agreements, ensuring ample resources for ongoing operations and future investments without incurring short-term debt.

Commitment to Customer Service and Affordability

Atmos Energy continues to prioritize customer satisfaction, achieving over a 97% rating for the first nine months of the fiscal year. The customer advocacy team provided $16.2 million in funding assistance to nearly 49,000 customers, underscoring the company's dedication to community support. Management emphasized the affordability of natural gas, noting that household gas bills are 2% to 4% lower than electricity costs, reinforcing its value proposition to consumers.

Navigating Market Dynamics and Future Outlook

While APT's performance aligned with expectations in Q3, narrowing spreads due to increased pipeline capacity coming online earlier than anticipated will likely impact fourth-quarter results. Operating and Maintenance (O&M) expenses are projected slightly higher for fiscal 2026, reflecting increased compliance and safety activities. Despite these challenges, the company remains on track with its $4.2 billion capital expenditure plan and expects a moderated EPS growth rate of 6% to 8% in fiscal 2027, following a significant "step year change" in 2026 from regulatory rule implementation.
