The leadership at Avant Public School is appealing to the community for support in passing two significant bonds, aimed at addressing essential maintenance and operational needs. The first bond, totaling $735,000, is dedicated to a series of vital upgrades within the school’s infrastructure. These funds will be allocated to replacing deteriorating exterior doors, repairing damaged flooring throughout the building, updating cafeteria tables, and acquiring a new milk cooler for the dining area. Ensuring these improvements will not only enhance the learning environment but also extend the longevity of the historic school building, which has stood since 1939.

Beyond the structural enhancements, an additional $65,000 bond seeks to introduce a full-size SUV into the district’s vehicle fleet. This investment would facilitate more efficient transportation for small groups of students on various excursions, eliminating the need for mini-buses. Resident Nona Roach, who remains deeply committed to the school’s success, highlights the importance of maintaining such resources, especially given the socio-economic challenges faced by many families in the area. She emphasizes that for some students, meals provided at school may be their only reliable source of nutrition.

Despite concerns over declining enrollment, Superintendent Chad Joice expresses confidence in the school's future. With only 51 students currently enrolled, down from 69 last year, the community’s backing through these bonds could be crucial for sustaining operations. The vote scheduled for February 11th will determine whether Avant Public School can continue to thrive, providing a nurturing environment for its students while preserving the heart of this close-knit town. Moving forward with these initiatives will ensure that the school remains a cornerstone of support and education for generations to come.
