Unleash the Power: Diallo's Arrival Ignites Baskonia's EuroLeague Aspirations
Baskonia Strengthens Roster with NBA Talent Acquisition
Baskonia has officially announced the two-year contractual agreement with Hamidou Diallo, a former National Basketball Association swingman. This significant acquisition is set to infuse the EuroLeague team with elevated athleticism and invaluable experience, enhancing their two-way play. The Vitoria-Gasteiz-based organization formally revealed the agreement, emphasizing Diallo's impressive career, which includes over 250 appearances in the NBA and a notable performance during the 2024-25 season with the Shanxi Loongs in the Chinese Basketball Association.
Diallo's Impactful Performance Across Leagues
The 27-year-old New York native demonstrated his formidable skills during his tenure in China, where he averaged 22.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game last season. Following his draft in 2018, Diallo's professional journey included stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, and Washington Wizards, alongside appearances in the G-League for the Capital City Go-Go and Oklahoma City Blue. His remarkable leaping prowess was notably highlighted when he triumphed in the 2019 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, showcasing the extraordinary athletic capabilities he is now prepared to exhibit in both the Liga Endesa and the EuroLeague competitions.
Versatility and Defensive Prowess: A New Chapter in Europe
Standing at 1.99 meters (6-foot-6), Diallo offers a robust physical presence on the perimeter, coupled with the adaptability to defend against various positions. Throughout his NBA career, he maintained averages of 8.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, with a shooting efficiency of nearly 50% from the field. His most successful NBA season occurred in 2020-21, where he recorded averages of 11.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game during his time with Oklahoma City and Detroit. Despite demonstrating flashes of exceptional play, Diallo faced challenges in securing a permanent position in the NBA, which led him to explore opportunities in China. There, he flourished as a primary scorer for Shanxi, rejuvenating his career and attracting considerable interest from prominent European basketball clubs.
