The Bridge City Independent School District (BCISD) has taken a significant step towards enhancing its educational infrastructure. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $27.5 million bond program aimed at constructing a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center at Bridge City High School. This initiative is part of the district's broader strategy to address the financial constraints faced by public schools and invest in future-ready facilities.

Despite facing numerous financial challenges, BCISD has devised an innovative funding mechanism to ensure this project moves forward without increasing the tax burden on local residents. By leveraging the Interest & Sinking (I&S) portion of the district’s tax rate, officials have ensured that funds designated for teacher salaries and daily operations remain untouched. This approach guarantees that all revenue generated stays within the district, maximizing benefits for taxpayers. Moreover, the district has capitalized on its growing industrial tax base, bolstered by investments from companies like Golden Triangle Polymers and Entergy, allowing it to issue bonds without raising property taxes.

While the ballot language for the May 3, 2025, bond election will include the phrase “THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE,” district officials have clarified that the tax rate will remain stable. This commitment to fiscal responsibility underscores BCISD’s dedication to providing quality education and modern facilities for students. The new Performing Arts Center will not only serve as a hub for artistic expression but also symbolize the community’s resilience and vision for a brighter future. Through prudent financial planning and strategic partnerships, BCISD continues to prioritize the well-being and success of its students and the broader community.
