In the upcoming May 3 election, various school districts in the Coastal Bend region of Texas are appealing to voters for approval on multi-million dollar bond proposals. These initiatives aim to enhance educational facilities, bolster student resources, and plan for future growth. Key districts include Gregory Portland ISD with a $205 million proposal, Flour Bluff ISD seeking $193.5 million, Ingleside ISD proposing nearly $50 million, Agua Dulce ISD aiming for a $15 million bond, and Benevides ISD requesting $10 million. Each district's package focuses on distinct improvements such as safety enhancements, technological upgrades, and infrastructure renovations.

Among the districts presenting their case to voters is Gregory Portland Independent School District (GPISD). This entity is advocating for a substantial $205 million bond divided into four propositions. The proposed measures encompass advancements in safety and security, Career and Technical Education (CTE) renovations, construction of a new fieldhouse, technology updates, and the establishment of a performing arts center. A significant aspect of this proposition is that GPISD assures no increase in property tax rates should the bond pass, attributing funding primarily to industrial taxpayers.

Flour Bluff Independent School District similarly seeks voter endorsement for its $193.5 million bond, partitioned into three propositions. If ratified, funds will be allocated towards campus overhauls, safety enhancements, CTE expansions, and improvements to Hornet Stadium. An approved bond would result in an estimated monthly tax increment of $37 for homeowners possessing properties valued at $250,000. However, those eligible for the over-65 exemption would remain unaffected by any tax adjustments.

Ingleside ISD is putting forth a nearly $50 million bond initiative aimed at augmenting classroom spaces at Mircovich Elementary, boosting campus security, and acquiring new school buses. According to the district, this bond would instigate a modest rise in tax rates by two-and-a-half cents. This financial injection is anticipated to support both current needs and anticipate future demands within the education system.

Agua Dulce ISD’s $15 million bond proposal targets essential areas such as purchasing new school buses, implementing technology upgrades, renovating the field house and welding shop, and thoroughly revamping the 43-year-old elementary school. Superintendent Jimmy Padilla highlighted the importance of these changes in accommodating the expanding student population and ensuring quality facilities for forthcoming generations. Approval of this bond would lead to a tax rate increase of 23 cents, elevating it to $1.22 per $100 of assessed value.

Benevides ISD rounds out the list with a $10 million bond package focusing on diverse projects including locker room and restroom renovations for baseball and softball facilities, introducing an elementary school playground, upgrading transportation and technology systems, and enhancing kitchen equipment, track resurfacing, tennis courts, and parking lots. These comprehensive plans reflect each district's commitment to modernizing and fortifying their educational environments.

Voters in the Coastal Bend area face pivotal decisions regarding the future development and enhancement of their local schools. With each district outlining clear objectives and financial implications, residents are encouraged to participate actively in shaping the trajectory of their communities' educational landscapes. As the election day approaches, understanding these proposals becomes crucial for informed voting choices.
