The Neural Expressive interface, first introduced with Google's Wear OS 7 announcement, represents a significant visual upgrade for Gemini on wearables. When users interact with the AI assistant, a new gradient effect animates over the watch face, providing a more engaging and responsive visual feedback. This rollout commenced with Pixel Watch models and has since begun appearing on other devices, expanding its availability to a larger user base.
Confirming this expansion, Tushar Mehta from Android Authority reported that the updated Gemini interface has successfully made its way to his first-generation Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. Running on Wear OS 6 (known as One UI 8 Watch in Samsung's ecosystem), the Galaxy Watch Ultra now displays the identical Neural Expressive overlay seen on Pixel Watches. This confirms Google's strategy to integrate its advanced AI interface across various Wear OS devices.
Mehta further detailed that the gradient overlay activates seamlessly when Gemini is invoked using the 'Hey Google' voice command on the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Alternatively, pressing and holding the watch's Home button launches the Gemini application, where the same expressive gradient effect is presented against a sleek black background, maintaining a consistent visual identity.
Despite the introduction of these new visuals, advanced Gemini Intelligence features, which are expected to enable more complex digital tasks, are yet to be fully deployed. These intelligent functionalities were initially teased alongside the Wear OS 7 update. However, the current visual refresh on devices like the Galaxy Watch Ultra, still operating on Wear OS 6, does not include these advanced capabilities, indicating that a full suite of Gemini Intelligence features will likely arrive with future Wear OS 7 updates.
