Hamilton Insurance Group Finalizes $300M Easton Re Cat Bond with Favorable Terms
On November 3rd, 2026, Hamilton Insurance Group successfully concluded its largest catastrophe bond offering, Easton Re Ltd. (Series 2027-1). The transaction, which initially sought $250 million, was oversubscribed and ultimately priced to provide $300 million in multi-peril retrocessional reinsurance. The pricing achieved was below the initial guidance range, demonstrating strong investor appetite for these notes. This marks the third 144A catastrophe bond under the Easton Re banner for Hamilton Re, the company’s reinsurance division. The new bond is effectively an upsizing and renewal of the maturing Easton Re Ltd. (Series 2024-1) deal. The $300 million Class A notes, issued by Bermuda-based special purpose insurer Easton Re Ltd., will offer Hamilton Re and its subsidiaries three years of per-occurrence retrocession coverage. The protection extends to U.S., DC, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands named storms, as well as U.S. and Canada earthquakes, with an industry-loss trigger. The initial expected loss for these notes stands at 2.66%. The pricing journey saw an initial spread guidance of 4.75% to 5.25%, which was subsequently lowered to 4% to 4.75%. Ultimately, the notes were priced at an initial risk interest spread of 4.25%, solidifying favorable terms for Hamilton.
This successful issuance underscores Hamilton's strategic prowess in leveraging capital markets to enhance its catastrophe protection. The ability to secure a larger volume of coverage at reduced costs highlights the current market conditions where cat bond investors are keenly seeking diversification and yield. For the insurance industry, this trend signifies a growing confidence in insurance-linked securities as a reliable mechanism for risk transfer, potentially leading to more efficient capital allocation and broader access to reinsurance capacity.
