The New York Knicks are actively looking to strengthen their frontcourt rotation, inviting two experienced big men, Trey Jemison and Alex Len, for tryouts. This strategic move comes as the team, under its new head coach Mike Brown, seeks to enhance its roster depth and veteran presence, especially with one key player currently sidelined by injury.
Trey Jemison, a 25-year-old center standing at 6-foot-10, spent the previous season with both the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Lakers on two-way contracts. During his time with the Lakers, he played in 38 games, contributing an average of 2.6 points and 2.8 rebounds, with an impressive 61.9% shooting accuracy from the field. Prior to that, in the 2023–24 season, Jemison was a significant presence for Memphis, starting 23 games and averaging 7.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per contest. His abilities in rim protection and mobility could make him a compelling option for a reserve role within the Knicks' lineup.
Bringing a decade of NBA experience, 32-year-old Alex Len, a 7-foot center, played for the Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards, and the Lakers last season, participating in a total of 46 games. Throughout his extensive career of 690 appearances, Len has maintained averages of 6.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks. His most impactful season occurred in 2018–19 with the Atlanta Hawks, where he averaged 11.1 points and 5.5 boards, notably shooting 36.3% from beyond the arc. The Knicks' current frontcourt foundation includes Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson, complemented by Guerschon Yabusele and rookie Mohamed Diawara in supporting roles, with Ariel Hukporti recovering from an injury.
The proactive steps taken by the Knicks to evaluate players like Jemison and Len demonstrate a commitment to building a resilient and competitive team. By focusing on integrating players with established experience and specific defensive capabilities, the organization is laying the groundwork for a season where depth and adaptability will be crucial. This approach reflects a positive outlook, aiming to not only navigate potential challenges but also to foster a dynamic environment for both seasoned veterans and emerging talents to thrive.
