Landry Shamet, a well-regarded perimeter shooter, is making his way back to the New York Knicks, finalizing a one-year contract. This development was officially announced by his representative, George S. Langberg, who shared the details with ESPN's Shams Charania.

Despite attracting attention from numerous other franchises during the free agency period, Shamet's decision was reportedly influenced by the strong team atmosphere and winning mentality prevalent within the Knicks' organization last season. His commitment aligns with the team's ambitions for championship contention. From a fiscal standpoint, the Knicks are operating under significant limitations, being hard-capped at the second tax apron. This financial constraint means they can only acquire one veteran player and one rookie through minimum-salary agreements, a category Shamet conveniently fits into.

The financial particulars of the agreement stipulate that Shamet will earn $3,080,921 for the 2025-26 season. However, due to specific salary cap regulations, the Knicks will only be assessed $2,296,274 against their cap. The guarantee status of this contract has not yet been publicly disclosed, a detail of interest given Shamet's previous non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract with New York. Shamet, who will turn 29 during the upcoming season, was originally selected as the 26th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft after a three-year collegiate career at Wichita State. Throughout his professional journey, he has had stints with the 76ers, Clippers, Nets, Suns, and Wizards before joining the Knicks in 2024. Despite a dip in his statistical output last season, averaging 5.7 points and 1.2 rebounds across 50 games following an early-season shoulder injury, his proficiency from beyond the arc remained consistent, with a three-point conversion rate of nearly 40%.

With Shamet's official re-signing, the Knicks' roster will expand to 13 players under standard contracts, leaving all three two-way contract slots available. Kevin McCullar Jr. continues to hold two-way restricted free agent status, a situation that could see further roster adjustments. This strategic move underscores the Knicks' commitment to maintaining team chemistry and a competitive edge, even amidst stringent financial parameters.
