The Finnish squad heads into EuroBasket 2025 with considerable confidence, having demonstrated their prowess by maintaining a perfect 4-0 record in recent friendly contests, securing decisive victories against both Belgium and Poland. This impressive run of form not only boosts team morale but also underscores the squad's harmonious blend of veteran experience and emerging young talent. Alongside Markkanen's individual brilliance, the team benefits from the presence of seasoned players such as the sharp-shooting guard Sasu Salin, who provides invaluable leadership and international experience, while Mikael Jantunen has consistently proven to be a vital contributor. Furthermore, the promising young forward Miikka Muurinen is generating excitement as a potential breakout star.
Finland's journey in the EuroBasket competition has seen consistent advancement in recent years, progressing to the Round of 16 in 2017 and subsequently reaching the Quarter-Finals in 2022, where their path was ultimately halted by Spain, the eventual champions. The team's primary objective is to secure qualification for the Final Phase, to be held in Riga, Latvia, and to surpass their previous achievements. Their campaign is set to commence with a pivotal opening match against Sweden, presenting Finland with an early opportunity to establish their dominance and build momentum in their home tournament.
