Marshall has revealed its inaugural artist signature amplifier in over a decade, partnering with Green Day's frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong. This limited-edition head unit draws inspiration from Armstrong's signature sound during the band's renowned "Dookie" album period.
The Marshall 1959BJA Artist Signature amplifier, first previewed during Green Day's Super Bowl performance in 2026, will be available starting July 21st through authorized Marshall dealers. Building upon Marshall's 1959HW platform, this amplifier features a unique "Dookie Mod" co-developed with Armstrong, designed to replicate the distinctive tone he achieved with producer Rob Cavallo. This modification enhances gain and tightens the low-frequency response, delivering the powerful distortion characteristic of Armstrong's playing style.
Beyond its sound, the 1959BJA amplifier boasts a striking baby-blue finish, a nod to Armstrong's first guitar, "Blue." It also includes brass and silver control panels, bespoke branding, and Armstrong's signature on both the front and back. As a head-only unit, it offers musicians the flexibility to pair it with their preferred speaker cabinet. This powerful amplifier delivers 100W of output, utilizing three ECC83 preamp valves and four EL34 power valves. It features a single-channel configuration with controls for presence, gain, master volume, and a three-band equalizer. Connectivity options include two speaker outputs with selectable 16Ω, 8Ω, and 4Ω impedance, along with high and low inputs to accommodate various playing styles. Each unit is meticulously handwired in the UK, having undergone Marshall's rigorous R&D process and extensive touring reliability testing. This release further strengthens Marshall's enduring partnership with Armstrong, who recently featured in their campaign for the Monitor III ANC headphones.
