During the Philadelphia 76ers' 2025 Media Day, star forward Paul George offered an extensive update on his rehabilitation process. Having undergone arthroscopic knee surgery in July following an offseason injury, George shared positive news regarding his progress, indicating a steady improvement in his physical condition and a growing sense of strength. He voiced his hope for a return to action sooner than initially anticipated, emphasizing the critical nature of the upcoming weeks leading into the new season.

The previous season proved to be particularly arduous for George, as he openly admitted it was one of the most challenging periods of his professional career. Restricted to just 41 games due to persistent issues with his knee, groin, and fingers, he characterized the campaign as a personal low point. Despite these significant hurdles, George conveyed a distinct shift in his outlook for the impending season, fueled by a renewed sense of purpose and collective dedication within the team. He noted his consistent presence at the team facilities, engaging in daily gym workouts and weight room sessions alongside his teammates, underscoring a shared commitment to improvement.

Addressing questions about his future approach to managing injuries, George affirmed his intention to prioritize his body's signals and to place complete trust in the guidance of the team's medical professionals. He articulated that maintaining his health is paramount to his ability to perform effectively on the court, reiterating his diligent efforts in rehabilitation and the tangible progress he has observed. Furthermore, the seasoned player wholeheartedly embraced his responsibility as a mentor, particularly to the younger talent on the Philadelphia roster, including rookie V.J. Edgecombe. He expressed confidence in his defined role as a veteran leader, understanding precisely where his contributions are most needed.

Currently, George is able to participate in lifting exercises, shooting drills, and stationary basketball activities. However, he has not yet received clearance for full-contact training. While an official timeline for his return remains undetermined, he highlighted a significant reduction in swelling as a positive indicator of his recovery. The eight-time All-Star also expressed his openness to playing more minutes at the power forward position within Coach Nick Nurse's strategic system. He believes this adjustment would allow him to provide additional ball-handling capabilities and enhance floor spacing for the team.

George's commitment to the 76ers was solidified by a substantial four-year, $212 million contract signed in 2024, forming a formidable core alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Following a season fraught with physical setbacks, both George and the organization are singularly focused on ensuring his complete health and readiness for the 2025–26 campaign.
