In response to growing user dissatisfaction over the prevalence of AI-generated content, often referred to as \"AI slop,\" Pinterest has launched new tools designed to give users greater command over the visuals appearing in their feeds. This initiative aims to address concerns about the platform being overrun by artificial intelligence-created imagery, a sentiment that has been widely expressed by its community.
These newly introduced customization options enable users to reduce the display of generative AI imagery within specific categories, such as beauty, art, fashion, and home décor. Pinterest has indicated that additional categories will be added in the future, based on user input. Furthermore, the company is committed to making its existing labels for AI-generated content more prominent, ensuring users can more easily identify such visuals. These controls are initially available on the website and Android versions of the app, with an iOS rollout anticipated in the coming weeks.
Matt Madrigal, Pinterest's chief technology officer, emphasized that these enhancements underscore the platform's dedication to its community. He highlighted that the new GenAI controls empower individuals to customize their Pinterest experience, achieving a harmonious balance between human creativity and AI innovation, thereby ensuring that each user's feed truly reflects their primary inspirations.
