The Portland Trail Blazers have demonstrated a strong commitment to their roster by guaranteeing Duop Reath’s contract for the upcoming 2025-26 season. This strategic decision secures the services of the Australian big man, valued for his unique skill set that includes impressive floor-spacing ability and reliable shooting. Reath's journey to this point, overcoming being undrafted to establish himself as a valuable NBA asset, highlights his perseverance and adaptability. His contributions have been significant, especially in providing depth and consistent performance within the Blazers' lineup. This long-term commitment reflects the team's confidence in his ongoing development and impact, solidifying his role as a crucial component of their future plans.
Duop Reath, at 29 years old, has become an integral part of the Portland Trail Blazers' rotation since joining the team two seasons ago. His guaranteed $2.22 million salary for the 2025-26 season, as reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, is a testament to his consistent performance and value to the squad. Reath has showcased his effectiveness in just under 15 minutes per game, averaging 7.1 points and 3.0 rebounds across 114 NBA appearances. His three-point shooting, a crucial element for a modern big man, stands at an impressive 34.8%.
During the 2023-24 season, Reath notably participated in 68 games, starting 20 of them, and recorded a career-best 9.1 points per contest. His shooting percentages during this period were particularly strong, hitting 35.9% from beyond the arc and 46.1% from the field overall. Despite a slightly reduced role in the subsequent 2024-25 season, Reath maintained his efficiency, notably excelling from the free-throw line with a 90.9% success rate. He consistently offered reliable minutes off the bench, supporting frontline players like Deandre Ayton and Moses Brown.
Reath's journey to the NBA is particularly noteworthy. After going undrafted out of LSU in 2018, he embarked on an extensive international career, playing in various leagues across Serbia, China, Australia, and Lebanon. This diverse professional experience undoubtedly honed his skills and prepared him for the rigors of the NBA. His capacity to stretch the floor, combined with his defensive presence, makes him an invaluable asset for the Trail Blazers, particularly as the franchise continues its evaluation and development of young talent. His unique blend of skills fits well into the strategic direction of the team's second unit.
This guaranteed contract signals the Trail Blazers' belief in Duop Reath's continued growth and his importance to their long-term vision. His journey from an undrafted player to a guaranteed NBA contract underscores the importance of perseverance and the value of a versatile skill set in today's professional basketball landscape. The team looks forward to his ongoing contributions as they build for future success.
