Actor Alan Ritchson, renowned for his lead role in the series 'Reacher,' and his wife Catherine have publicly announced their decision to separate after two decades of marriage and a relationship spanning 27 years. This announcement, conveyed through a joint Instagram post, marks a significant change for the couple, who are high school sweethearts and co-parents to three sons. The news follows a previously undisclosed divorce filing by Ritchson in December 2025, which was later withdrawn in March, indicating a period of attempted reconciliation that ultimately did not succeed.

The couple's journey began during their teenage years in Florida, where they met in a ballet class. Alan was 17 and Catherine was 16. Their bond strengthened over the years, leading to an engagement in 2005 and their marriage in 2006. Throughout their long-standing relationship, they built a family with three sons: Calem, 13; Edan, 12; and Amory Tristan, 10. Their recent Instagram statement emphasized their shared history and their unwavering commitment to co-parenting, expressing a desire for privacy and compassion during this transitional period. The statement read, "After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way. We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world. Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us - or the love and respect we will always share." They further added, "The best gift we can give one another - and our boys - right now is friendship, grace, and a commitment to become the strongest co-parents we can be. We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming. Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in. We hope, especially for the sake of our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion."

Interestingly, the initial divorce filing by Ritchson in December 2025, citing "irreconcilable differences," preceded their brief reconciliation in March of this year. This timeline is particularly noteworthy given that Ritchson was involved in a widely reported physical altercation with a neighbor in Brentwood, Tennessee, on March 18, just days after the couple's reconciliation. The incident, captured on video, showed Ritchson in a heated clash over his neighbor's motorcycle. Despite the intensity of the confrontation, the Brentwood Police Department ultimately cleared Ritchson, ruling that he acted in self-defense. Following the incident, Catherine humorously acknowledged the headlines on her 42nd birthday, posting a photo with the caption, "I spent my birthday attending a week long retreat which included an off-grid digital detox. Did I miss anything?" to which Alan playfully responded, "Who’s gonna tell her..?" This exchange highlighted their ability to maintain a sense of humor amidst personal and public challenges, even as their relationship faced underlying difficulties. Ritchson continues to star in the Amazon Prime series 'Reacher,' which has been renewed for a fifth season.

The couple's public declaration emphasizes their commitment to a respectful separation and shared parenting, asking for understanding and space as they navigate this new phase of their lives. Their journey from high school sweethearts to co-parents reflects a deep, enduring connection despite the end of their marital union. The focus remains on the well-being of their children and fostering a supportive environment for their continued growth.
