The educational community in San Angelo, Texas, mourns the loss of a remarkable leader, Dr. Carol Ann Bonds, who passed away at her home on March 8, 2025, at the age of 77. Her tenure as Superintendent of San Angelo Independent School District (SAISD) was marked by her unwavering dedication and infectious enthusiasm. During her nearly nine-year leadership, she not only transformed the district but also touched countless lives through her genuine kindness.

Dr. Bonds' journey in education began in Jackson, Mississippi, where she was born as the eldest of three siblings. After completing high school, she pursued higher education at Houston Baptist University, earning a bachelor’s degree in English and elementary education. Her academic pursuits continued with a master’s degree in reading from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, followed by a Ph.D. in public school leadership from the University of Texas. Before stepping into administration, she spent 11 years as an educator, laying a strong foundation for her future roles. As a principal in Rogers, she was recognized as Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals Association in 1995. Her administrative career reached new heights when she became superintendent in Livingston, being one of five finalists for the Texas Superintendent of the Year Award in 2001.

Beyond her contributions to education, Dr. Bonds was actively involved in state and national initiatives. In 2015, Governor Greg Abbott appointed her to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. She also served on the Air Force Chief of Staff’s Civic Leader Program and the Air Education Training Command Program. Her achievements were acknowledged with accolades such as the Region XV Superintendent of the Year in 2010 and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2015. Dr. Bonds' legacy is a testament to the power of compassion and leadership, inspiring current and future generations to strive for excellence and serve their communities with integrity and passion.
