The Roswell City Council is poised to authorize the issuance of Development Authority Revenue Bonds on March 10, aimed at refinancing Wellstar Health System's obligations. This financial maneuver, which could save Wellstar approximately one million dollars annually, will not affect the city’s bond capacity or impact local taxpayers. The resolution permits the Development Authority to facilitate a refinancing deal not exceeding $100 million, allowing Wellstar to secure lower interest rates on its debt.

City officials have already endorsed this measure in a recent public meeting involving key municipal leaders. While the item is listed under the consent agenda, indicating it is likely to pass without debate, it can still be moved to the business agenda if necessary. Wellstar, being the largest healthcare provider in the state, has previously employed similar strategies to manage its finances effectively. For instance, in 2017, Cobb County approved a significant issuance of Revenue Anticipation Certificates to aid Kennestone Hospital Authority.

Beyond this critical financial decision, the March 10 meeting will also address several appointments and a public hearing. Notably, the council plans to reappoint several members to various commissions and boards, ensuring continuity in civic governance. Additionally, a public hearing will be held to review amendments to the Grand Reserve at Litchfield Site Plan. The proposed changes aim to enhance safety by relocating an emergency access entrance to meet GDOT requirements. These actions underscore the city’s commitment to improving infrastructure and maintaining high standards in community planning and healthcare support.
