A leading U.S. primary insurance provider, SafePoint, is in the process of securing an additional $100 million in protective coverage for annual aggregate and industry-loss index-triggered named storm events. This significant step involves leveraging the Arthur Re Ltd. – Nature Coast Re 2026-3 catastrophe bond platform, a mechanism designed to supply retro reinsurance to its internal captive reinsurer. This strategic move underscores SafePoint's persistent commitment to utilizing the capital markets for robust risk transfer solutions, particularly in the face of multi-named storm and hurricane occurrences impacting its underwriting portfolios.
This endeavor is not SafePoint's initial foray into the catastrophe bond arena for securitized industry-loss warranty (ILW) style protection. Previously, in December 2024, the insurer successfully acquired $200 million in state-weighted, annual aggregate, and industry-loss index-triggered reinsurance through a Nature Coast Re Ltd. (Series 2025-1) catastrophe bond. That bond remains active through the close of 2028, but the current initiative highlights SafePoint's proactive approach to enhancing its aggregate index-trigger coverage. Furthermore, SafePoint is simultaneously engaged in another cat bond offering, the Nature Coast Re Ltd. (Series 2026-2) indemnity and per-occurrence cat bond, which has seen its target size increased twice and is anticipated to finalize pricing shortly, reaching an impressive $650 million. This dual approach signifies a concerted effort to build out substantial capital markets-backed reinsurance to mitigate the financial impact of tropical storms and hurricanes across the United States.
For this specific index-triggered catastrophe bond, SafePoint is utilizing Arthur Re Ltd., an issuance structure managed by Gallagher Re. This platform was specifically developed by the broker to streamline and economize the issuance of industry-loss index-triggered catastrophe bonds. The current offering for SafePoint through Arthur Re Ltd. involves a proposed $100 million tranche of Class A notes to investors, channeled through a segregated account known as Nature Coast Re 2026-3. It has been revealed that the ceding entity for this bond issuance is Pompano Re Ltd., a specialized insurer that SafePoint established in 1999, now serving as the captive reinsurer for SafePoint and its reciprocal underwriting affiliates. Pompano Re's capacity to engage with capital markets sources makes it an ideal intermediary between the issuer, Arthur Re, and the SafePoint entities.
The Nature Coast Re 2026-3 catastrophe bond notes from Arthur Re are structured to provide Pompano Re with a multi-year, fully-collateralized source of retrocessional reinsurance for U.S. named storms from the capital markets. This extensive coverage will ultimately benefit the underwriting portfolios of the primary SafePoint Insurance entity, the Louisiana-focused Cajun Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange, and the Florida-based Manatee Insurance Exchange, which serves homeowners and business owners. The protection will operate on an annual aggregate and industry-loss index trigger basis, spanning all 50 U.S. states, including Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The term of protection is approximately four years, extending to the end of November 2030, with annual aggregate risk periods encompassing four hurricane seasons for the sponsor. The single tranche of Class A Nature Coast Re 2026-3 notes is expected to include a franchise deductible of $40 million, an attachment point at $450 million, and exhaustion at $650 million, based on index values rather than ground-up reported industry losses. With an initial attachment probability of 5.39% and an initial expected loss of 4.082%, the price guidance for these notes is set within a spread of 7.25% to 8%.
SafePoint's current actions underscore a significant drive to bolster its catastrophe bond coverage in 2026. This comprehensive strategy includes the previously secured $250 million indemnity protection from the Nature Coast Re Ltd. (Series 2026-1) cat bond in February, the ongoing $650 million target for the Nature Coast Re Ltd. (Series 2026-2) deal, and this newest aggregate industry-loss trigger cat bond. These combined efforts demonstrate a robust and multi-faceted approach to risk management, designed to shield SafePoint's diverse underwriting interests from the financial volatility associated with severe weather phenomena across a broad geographical area.
