Previously, merely holding down on the Edge Panel handle for an extended moment would trigger AI Select, causing the screen to freeze and the selection interface to appear. This often led to interruptions, and until now, the only way to avoid this was to completely disable the Edge Panels, a less-than-ideal solution for many. The new "Touch and hold for AI select" option, located in the device's display settings under Edge panels, allows individuals to disable this long-press gesture, thereby avoiding accidental triggers without compromising the functionality of the Edge Panel itself. Users can still access AI Select through its dedicated shortcut within the Edge Panel, offering a more deliberate and controlled interaction.
AI Select, an evolution of Samsung's Smart Select tool, shares similarities with Google's Circle to Search, enabling users to highlight screen content to extract text, create animated GIFs from videos, or seamlessly integrate selected images into Generative Edit and Drawing Assist.
