Samsung is enhancing its One UI with a novel functionality that enables users to invigorate their device backgrounds. The latest iteration, One UI 9, introduces the capability to set Motion Photos as interactive wallpapers, offering a more dynamic and engaging visual experience than traditional static images.
This innovative feature, initially observed by SamMobile, permits the selection of Motion Photos for both the home screen and lock screen. Motion Photos are brief video segments recorded just before and after a picture is taken, providing a short three-second clip. Previously, their primary utility was to allow users to refine their still images; however, with One UI 9, these clips can now serve as animated backgrounds. Users will have the option to preview the animation before applying it and can toggle the animation on or off as desired. Currently, this live wallpaper option is accessible on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8, though it has not yet been integrated into the One UI 9.0 beta for the Galaxy S26 series.
This new addition reflects a continuous effort to provide users with greater customization and a richer interactive experience on their devices. By transforming everyday photos into captivating backgrounds, Samsung is not only leveraging existing camera technology in a creative way but also setting a trend for more personalized and animated mobile interfaces. This forward-thinking approach underscores a commitment to innovation, inviting users to engage with their devices in a more vivid and personal manner.
