Stephen Chow's latest cinematic sensation, 'Kung Fu Soccer,' a follow-up to his renowned 'Shaolin Soccer,' is poised to captivate audiences in North America and the United Kingdom. This film, which has already achieved significant box office success in China, continues Chow's tradition of blending martial arts with comedic storytelling.

Chow's Latest Epic Kicks Off Global Journey

A Triumphant Return to the Big Screen

The highly anticipated 'Kung Fu Soccer,' directed by the legendary Stephen Chow, is making its way to theaters across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Its North American and British debut is scheduled for October 23rd. The film will be available in its original language, alongside a newly created English-dubbed version that features the vocal talents of Chow himself, Jimmy O. Yang, and MC Jin.

Echoes of a Beloved Classic

This release commemorates the 25th anniversary of 'Shaolin Soccer,' a film that broke Hong Kong box office records upon its 2001 premiere and cultivated a dedicated global fan base. Chow's subsequent work, 'Kung Fu Hustle' (2004), further solidified his reputation, grossing over $100 million worldwide and establishing him as a master of comedy-action filmmaking.

China's Summer Box Office Champion

Released during China's summer to capitalize on World Cup enthusiasm, 'Kung Fu Soccer' emerged as the top earner of the season, raking in approximately $344.4 million (RMB 2.315 billion) between June 1st and August 31st. Chow's contribution significantly boosted the country's summer theatrical revenue, which reached $1.86 billion (RMB 12.498 billion), representing a 4.45 percent increase from the previous year.

The Visionary Behind the Lens

This marks Stephen Chow's first directorial project since 'The New King of Comedy' in 2019. Originally titled 'Shaolin Women's Soccer,' this Hong Kong-China co-production reimagines the original premise, centering on an all-female underdog team that combines martial arts with football skills.

An Empowering Narrative of Skill and Determination

The film stars Zhang Xiaofei, known for 'Hi, Mom,' as the determined captain of the Emei Women's Football Team. Dilraba Dilmurat portrays the team's star striker, while Lay Zhang takes on the role of their kung fu mentor. Together, they guide the team through a series of challenges, both on and off the field, as they strive to prove their capabilities in the Supreme Invincible Cup. The talented ensemble cast also includes Carina Lau, Takeru Satoh, Sisley Choi, Louis Cheung, Yang, and Jin.

Global Distribution and Accessibility

Encore Films secured the worldwide distribution rights for 'Kung Fu Soccer' outside mainland China from Chow's production company, The Star Overseas, in June. Following its successful theatrical run across the Asia-Pacific region, the film is now set for its Western debut.

Transcending Cultural Divides Through Cinema

Joyce Lee, managing director of Encore Films, expressed enthusiasm about bringing 'Kung Fu Soccer' to a broader international audience. She highlighted how Stephen Chow's films consistently bridge linguistic and cultural barriers, uniting viewers through their unique blend of action, humor, and emotion.

Reaching New Audiences with Dual Language Options

In addition to the English dub, Encore has also completed a Cantonese-dubbed version, with the voice cast to be announced soon. These efforts aim to introduce Chow's distinctive comedic style to new generations of fans while also delighting his long-standing admirers.
