The Charlotte Hornets have officially brought Antonio Reeves into their fold, signing the promising guard to a two-way contract. This move signifies the team's commitment to nurturing emerging talent and adding a player with a proven knack for scoring and efficient shooting to their developmental pipeline. Reeves' arrival is anticipated to provide valuable depth and a fresh dynamic to the team's backcourt, reflecting a forward-looking approach to roster construction.

The announcement of this significant signing was first disseminated by renowned NBA insider Shams Charania on Wednesday. Charania emphasized Reeves' notable shooting efficiency and considerable upside, factors that undoubtedly played a crucial role in the Hornets' decision. This acquisition follows a solid rookie campaign for Reeves with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he began to establish himself as a capable offensive presence.

During the 2024–25 season, the 24-year-old Reeves participated in 44 games. Across these appearances, he maintained an average of 6.9 points over approximately 15 minutes of play per game. His shooting percentages were particularly impressive, with a field goal efficiency of 45.6% and an outstanding three-point accuracy hovering just under 40%. These statistics underscore his ability to contribute offensively, especially from beyond the arc, making him a valuable asset for any team.

Reeves' journey in the NBA began when he was selected 47th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic. However, his rights were quickly traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on draft night in exchange for future second-round draft pick swaps in 2030 and 2031. This initial trade set the stage for his tenure with the Pelicans, where he signed on July 23, 2024. During his time there, Reeves also spent a portion of his rookie year honing his skills with the Pelicans’ G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron, gaining crucial professional experience.

Despite flashes of his considerable scoring potential and consistent performance, Reeves was subsequently waived by New Orleans on July 3, 2025. Nevertheless, he continued to showcase his abilities with the Pelicans during the 2025 NBA Summer League, further demonstrating his dedication and readiness for competitive play. It was in the wake of these events that the Charlotte Hornets recognized his talent and seized the opportunity to secure his services, integrating him into their long-term plans.

The addition of Antonio Reeves represents a strategic move for the Charlotte Hornets, as they aim to develop a strong core of skilled players. His demonstrated scoring ability and efficient shooting, particularly from the three-point line, offer a promising outlook for the team's future competitiveness and overall roster strength. The Hornets are clearly investing in young talent with the potential to make a significant impact, and Reeves fits that profile perfectly.
