Lithuania's participation in EuroBasket 2025 concluded in the quarter-finals following a hard-fought encounter against Greece, where the formidable Giannis Antetokounmpo led his team to victory. Despite the early tournament loss of a crucial player, Rokas Jokubaitis, due to injury, the Lithuanian squad valiantly reached the final eight, ultimately falling short against a more dominant Greek side.

Following their 87-76 defeat in Riga, head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis offered a candid assessment of the game. He commended Greece on their strong performance and specifically praised Vassilis Spanoulis for his exemplary coaching. Kurtinaitis admitted that Greece proved to be the stronger team on that particular night, stating that while his players fought valiantly, their collective strength was simply not enough to secure a win. The veteran coach highlighted the absence of a primary ball-handler as a significant hurdle since Jokubaitis's injury, emphasizing the critical need for players who can elevate their teammates' performance in high-stakes matches.

When questioned about similarities between their loss to Greece and Latvia's defeat to Lithuania in the preceding round, Kurtinaitis dismissed the comparison. He noted that his team comprised six new players, many of whom were experiencing this level of competition for the first time, contrasting their inexperience with Spanoulis's extensive 20-year playing career. Captain Jonas Valančiūnas echoed his coach's sentiments, acknowledging Greece's superiority but also expressing immense pride in his team's unwavering fighting spirit. He reiterated the profound honor of representing Lithuania, underscoring the team's strong bond and mutual support as they play for each other.

While Lithuania's EuroBasket journey ended sooner than anticipated, the resilience and camaraderie displayed by its youthful and evolving roster provide a strong foundation for optimism regarding their future in international basketball.
