Basketball legend Tim Hardaway believes Luka Doncic is exceptionally well-positioned to claim the league's Most Valuable Player title this season. Hardaway, in a conversation with Action Network, expressed his conviction that Doncic, whom he felt should have received the award two years prior, is now in an ideal scenario to secure it.
Hardaway emphasized that team success will be a crucial factor in Doncic's MVP candidacy. He suggested that if the Lakers achieve a top-four standing in the Western Conference, it would be challenging to overlook Doncic's contributions for the prestigious award. While acknowledging Doncic's improvements in physical conditioning, Hardaway also pointed out that the Slovenian guard, at 6'8\", still faces defensive hurdles due to his pace on the court.
Doncic's transition to the Los Angeles Lakers has been remarkably smooth since his high-profile trade from Dallas in February 2025. In his initial 28 regular-season games with the Lakers, he averaged an impressive 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. His exceptional play continued into the 2025 playoffs, where he averaged 30.2 points in a first-round series, despite battling a lower back injury. With a recent three-year, $165 million extension and LeBron James entering his 23rd season, the Lakers organization is clearly building their future around Doncic's extraordinary talent, setting the stage for what could be an MVP-caliber season.
This season represents a significant moment for Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers, embodying the spirit of continuous improvement and seizing opportunities. Hardaway's endorsement highlights the potential for individual brilliance to intertwine with collective achievement, inspiring both players and fans to strive for excellence. As Doncic steps into his role as the team's centerpiece, his journey serves as a reminder that dedication, adaptability, and leadership are key ingredients for success, propelling not only personal accolades but also the collective aspirations of a storied franchise.
